History of CHSA

The Construction History Society of America (CHSA) was organized in May of 2007 as a branch of the Construction History Society (CHS) based in the United Kingdom.

Since its inception, CHSA has hosted six Biennial meetings:  Atlanta (2008), Philadelphia (2010), Boston (2012), Minneapolis (2014), Austin (2016),  College Park, MD (2018), Kennesaw State, GA (2022), and Urbana-Champaign, IL (2023).  As a group, we believe that a yearly meeting is important, and we have arranged meetings on our off-year to explore topics and collaborate with other organizations.

Our members share a passion for examining how our existing structures were planned, designed, and built, with the purpose of using this knowledge to preserve what we have better and to guide us in determining future directions. The United States branch of the Construction History Society is a distinct entity catering to its members' historical studies and interests here in the Americas.  Membership in the US branch includes full benefits in CHS at large, including receipt of the Society's journal and links to scholars in the field worldwide.
