4th BIENNIAL MEETING / MINNEAPOLIS, MN / November 2014

The 4th Biennial Meeting, co-hosted by AIA Minnesota, included 8 sessions featuring 23 presentations.  The meeting also included a tour to the Seventh Street Bridge led by Benjamin Ibarra-Sevilla and a movie night with a showing of The Making of the Union Depot that was sponsored by Mortenson Construction.

THE CRYSTAL PALACE:  
Triumph of Design, Engineering and English Society
UNIVERSITY OF MINNESOTA / November 2016

A one-day symposium at the University of Minnesota on November 7, 2016. University of Minnesota, LearningLife – College of Continuing Education, “The Crystal Palace: Triumph of Design, Engineering, and English Society” with Brian Bowen, A. Peter Hilger, and Sir Joseph Paxton.

APT WGLC / CHSA SYMPOSIUM / CHICAGO
JUNE 2013

Skyscraper History: Looking Back While Looking Up, a one-day symposium co-hosted with APT Western Great Lakes Chapter featured case studies of local preservation efforts aimed at saving, rehabilitating and re-using historic skyscrapers.  A concluding panel debated which city can most convincingly claim the status as the birthplace of the skyscraper: New York, Minneapolis or Chicago.

3rd BIENNIAL MEETING / CAMBRIDGE, MA
NOVEMBER 2012

American Construction History 1850-1950 explored American construction and Guastavino vaults.  Keynotes Robert Silman and Janet Parks and abstracts that reviewed the history and technology of Guastavino arch construction were presented.
